The two hired the architectural firm of James and Merritt Reid to design the structure, which they did with Beaux-Arts-inspired design principles. The sisters then named the hotel as “The Fairmont Hotel” in honor of their father, Senator James Graham Fair. 1906: The Fairmont Hotel opened to thunderous applause.
